THIRD GENERATION TACHOGRAPHS
The EU Commission has introduced a number of changes to digitaltachographs. These design changes are being implemented in two generations, more commonly referred to as 2nd and 3rd generation digital tachographs.
Second generation tachographs were implemented from 1 October2011.
Any tachograph activated from 1 October 2012MUST be a 3rd generation tachograph and is required to have improved securityfeatures.
There is no requirement to retrospectively apply this Regulation,so vehicles already fitted with 1st or 2nd generation tachographs may continueto use these in future.
